Learning to Serve with Compassion Where Stigma Exists

While at my last two host sites, I feel like I learned so much within a span of these two weeks. I learned that as a nursing student it is about cherishing these moments because they don't last forever. While at the methadone clinic I never noticed how basically anyone can become a victim to addiction and how it is so hard for some of these patients. It has impacted my service for AmeriCorps because I can now learn how I can help this certain population and how this is not really spoken about because of how much society puts so much shame in this particular topic. I feel like a challenge is when the patients know what time the clinic would be closing and show up a minute after. But overall I feel like this clinical alone I learned so much that I was able to apply a lot of my nursing skills into use.
