YES Onboarding & Trainings

Onboarding

Onboarding typically takes up to two weeks, so we encourage you to stay organized and complete steps promptly to ensure you can begin your service on time. Below is a detailed outline of the onboarding steps (you will also receive emails from OUSF Staff outlining these steps):

  1. Reply to offer email, accepting position

  2. Add our contact information

    Please add these contacts to your email and phone so you don’t miss important updates:

  3. Complete Orientation

    Please complete your One Utah Service Fellowship Orientation and quiz using the link below. This must be done before moving forward with the next steps.

  4. Schedule a meeting with Erin (Schedule here)

  5. Payroll setup

    Watch for an email from Sherrel Thomas (USU) to verify your I-9 and set up payroll. Complete this right away so you can start getting paid once service begins.

  6. Fill out the RedCap Onboarding Form

  7. Schedule and attend fingerprinting appointment

  8. Sign Position Description

  9. Service Term Accounts

    In IPT, you must complete:

    • New Fellows Application

    • Enrollment Eligibility Verification - Sign as soon as possible.

    • Member Service Agreement - Cannot be signed until your signed Position Description has been uploaded.

    Your My.AmeriCorps.Gov Account:

    • Create your AmeriCorps Profile on My.americorps.gov. (Select Register to create a new Member/Alum account if this is your first term).

    • Complete the Enrollment Form located in the left hand column.


Pre Service Trainings

Note on Prior Training or Coursework:

If you have already completed comparable trainings or coursework (for example, in Mental Health First Aid, Trauma-Informed Practices, or other behavioral health or education-related certifications), please email Erin a copy of your certificate, transcript, or documentation. This will help us track your existing qualifications for reporting purposes.

Please note that while prior experience or coursework may not replace required YES trainings unless it matches the specific course listed, your documentation helps us better understand your training background.

PART 1:

1. One Utah Service Fellowship Orientation

Completed with the Placement Coordinator, Erin, via Google Meet.This session provides an overview of the YES program, AmeriCorps expectations, and onboarding steps.

2. On3Learn AmeriCorps Trainings

Below are steps on creating an On3Learn account and registering for your required courses. You must use the code (UTSUB24) when checking out courses so it will not cost you anything.

To create your account: 

  • Click on: Create Account 

  • Fill in basic information

  • Create and confirm password

  • Check box to agree to terms of use

  • Click "Create"

  • Enter "One Utah Service Fellowship" next to AmeriCorps program, select, "AmeriCorps Member" for your role, and enter, "Utah" next to state

  • Click "Next"

To register for & take your courses:

  • Once in your dashboard, select the Catalog tab on the left

  • Select each of the following courses by clicking on the "Add to Cart" button below the courses

    • AmeriCorps 101 for Members

    • AmeriCorps Prohibited, Unallowable, and Allowable Activities for Members

    • Email Communication for Members

  • After adding all of the above courses, click on Checkout to proceed

  • Enter your Coupon Code now (UTSUB24) click "Apply" to validate your code

  • Once you make sure your coupon code has been applied, click "Submit"

  • Your courses are now on your dashboard under the Courses tab 

Tips:

  • Use the latest version of Chrome as your internet browser. If you are unable to access Chrome, Firefox is the next best option

  • You must use the following code when checking out courses so it will not cost you anything – UTSUB24

  • If your code does not work for any reason, please DO NOT PUT IN A CREDIT CARD. Contact info@on3learn.com to solve the issue

3. QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Training

  2. Complete the online QPR Gatekeeper training module (approximately 1 hour).

4. Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Canvas Courses

Access: If you do not already have a Canvas account, create one using your USU email address here: https://usbe.catalog.instructure.com/user/new?account_id=16726&target_uri=%2Fcarts%2Fproduct%2Fadd%2F196337%3Fcheckout%3Dtrue (this will also enroll you in the Foundational Behavior Training course)

Complete all four asynchronous modules:

  1. Introduction to Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

  2. Foundational Behavior Training

  3. Trauma-Informed Practices (Courses 1 and 2)

  4. Suicide Prevention

6. USBE School-based Mental Health Roles and Responsibilities

Instructions: watch the video to understand the context of this role within the HB 281 regulations governing mental healthcare in schools.

Deadline: Before your first day at your service site.

Proof of completion: Screenshot finished video and email to Erin.

PART 2: YES Orientation and Technical Training (Recorded or Live Depending on Cohort)

This virtual training will cover the specifics of serving as a YES Navigator in schools, preparing you to interact successfully with students, build positive relationships, collaborate with staff and families, and track data for impact.

Depending on your start date, you may have the option to complete these trainings live with your cohort. Alternatively, these training are available asynchronously.

  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

    All members must complete one of the following upcoming virtual sessions:

    • Tuesday, January 20, 2026

    • Friday, February 13, 2026

    MHFA training is 8 hours, scheduled from 8 AM - 3 PM, via Zoom.

    This course was designed to help you feel prepared to help in a time of crisis, and well before. Every lesson takes 10 minutes or less and touches on topics ranging from “when to check on someone” to “what to do if someone is considering suicide”.
