Practice Makes Progress towards Success
As we have started a new year of after-school club we have taken extra time to ensure that the students are getting the help they need. With the help of the lead teacher, we assigned tutors to the ages we thought they could most thrive and be helpful and we also set up a reward system for the students if they stayed on task during the homework hour. I am specifically with the third and fourth graders because a good chunk of them speak Spanish as their first language and thus (with my ability to speak Spanish) I am able to help them more successfully and with a deeper understanding. I have seen large improvements in both their English and Math skills and I am glad that I have been able to help them. There are two sisters that I work with who did not want to read at the beginning of the year but now are begging me to read with them and answer reading quizzes. Even though it isn't easy for them, they are working so hard and I am so proud of the progress that they have made.
