One Paper at a Time: Supporting Focus and Learning
I helped one little boy with some of his homework. He was really frustrated at first, but I helped him by moving the other papers aside and focusing on one at a time. It helped him focus on one thing at a time and was better than having him see a stack of paper that was stressing him out. Sometimes children can get overwhelmed when they see a huge stack or list of things that they need to complete. It's nice for them to stick to focusing on one thing at a time. This helps their attention to be completely on the assignment and not rush it because they're thinking of the 10 other things they have to complete next. Giving students good time to work on important projects is a great way to help them learn the most out of their work. Students that finish faster could always do more work. But having the slower students have enough time is essential to their learning process. Once we set aside the boy's other papers, we were able to focus on the first assignment. He was able to thoroughly think through each math equation and write in neat manner on his paper.
